Just the awesome appearance of mountains have challenged Man to risk life and limb just to reach their peaks.
Jesus taught His disciples that if they had a minimal amount of faith they could speak to a mountain and it would move from it’s location (Matt. 17: 20). While nothing within God’s will is impossible (Luke 1: 37), God is not in the business of doing anything without a divine purpose in mind. When the moving of a mountain was, is, or will be a part of God's plan (e.g. Zech. 14: 4) it will happen. If such an event is not a part of God's plan, it will not.
Telekinesis speaks of the alleged ability to move objects with the power of one's mind.
Horror films often contain scenes in which human beings cause objects to move, often times to execute violence. Scripture (Matt. 24: 24) tells us that the devil and his spokespersons can produce signs and wonders in order, if possible, to deceive God's people and lead them astray. I believe that these signs and wonders include promises and blessings of earthly prosperity (Luke 4: 6),s as well as adversity.
I believe that there are many things, both good (Titus 3: 5/Eph.4: 30/Heb. 1: 14) and evil (1Pet.5:8/Rev. 12:9/Eph. 6: 12) that takes place in the spiritual realm all around us every day. Everything that takes place here on Earth promotes the agenda of one kingdom (Matt. 6: 10) or another (Luke 4: 6).
Advancing disciples discern the spiritual significance of everything that takes place here on planet Earth.
Just as God empowers human beings (Exodus 4: 21/judges 16: 28-30/Luke 10/ to engage in supernatural activities with a divine purpose in mind, the devil (to the extent that God allows) does the same (See Exodus 7: 11), but for his own reasons. The devil will use ANYTHING he can to deny God His glory (Isa. 42:8), dissuade unbelievers (Exodus 7: 22), or that can inspire spiritual adultery (Rev. 2: 4) in the lives of believers.
Spiritual adultery is in view whenever a born again believer places his/her trust or confidence in anyone or anything other than God for guidance or provision.
I believe that when Jesus was using hyperbole when He spoke of faith moving mountains. The mountains the He was speaking of are all of the adversity that we bring upon ourselves (or that others bring to us) that on the onset, seem insurmountable.
Faith is the solution to every spiritual issue. Faith is what we believe and the action it produces. The type of faith that God desires His people to have is undoubting, child-like (Matt. 18: 3) trust and confidence that He will produce what He has promised.
The Hebrews 11 Hall of Fame cites several examples of how our spiritual ancestors moved mountains by overcoming or enduring great adversity by way of faith.
I believe it takes more faith to successfully endure adversity when there is no end in sight, than it takes to reach a summit that is in view.
Every path of faith we take will prepare us for the hills ahead. Every hill prepares us for the mountains ahead. Every mountain prepares us for future ones that are higher still. The route to spiritual maturity is an uphill battle that gets steeper and more slippery the higher you go.
God has promised to be there with us every step along the way. He will not always give us everything we want because what we want is not within his plan. He will give us all the right equipment we need, but we may need to unload a few things from our backpack to make room. He will allow us to run out of strength from time to time to remind us that without Him we can accomplish nothing. He will allow us to come to dead ends from time to time to let us know when we have taken a wrong turn.
Mountain climbing is not for the timid. Mountain climbers know where they are and know where they want to be, but often have to make adjustments in the route to the top.
If we can move mountains with just a little faith, just think about what God can accomplish in the life of a believer who has developed his/her faith for maximum effect.
