His wife, Becky, was looking at him with a smile on her face. It was only a few months ago that he would come home from work upset and grouchy.
“It is so fun being a clown in the park here in Texas. I get to see people’s faces light up when I talk to them,” Jerry said with a big smile plastered on him. It wasn’t just his clown makeup that was smiling.
“Did you have a big crowd today?” Becky asked, running a finger through her short black hair. She loved seeing the transformation in her husband. It was completely different than before.
“It was not too big, but the people there watched me do a few tricks and then they listened as I told them about Jesus.”
“So, how many people’s lives were changed today?” Becky asked with a raised eyebrow.
“There were at least 10. They saw how genuinely happy I was and they wanted to know how to get that joy, too. This is really different than before I met Jesus, huh?” He asked looking at Becky with joy filled eyes.
He thought about that cool March day a few months ago when his friend, Allen, had opened up a new world to him and told him about Christ. He had explained how Jerry could live a happy life and help others at the same time. Being a clown had been hard for him before. He struggled when he had people jeer at him and be rude.
“How has your life changed since that day when you gave your heart to God?” Becky wanted Jerry to think about when the change started to happen.
“Wow. I can’t even pinpoint a certain time. I just know that one day I was sad and unhappy and the next day I was joyful and relieved. I knew that someone really loved me for who I am. No offense, I knew you loved me, but it is not the same.”
Jerry hoped he hadn’t offended his wife. She had stood by him when no one else would.
“No offense taken. I completely understand. That day changed my life, too. When I accepted Jesus into my life, I felt a burden was lifted from me and I was free. I felt happy for the first time in a long time, too. I just love seeing you this happy. Our whole world has changed.” Becky rejoiced at how their lives had both completely turned around.
“God is a good and faithful Father. I’m so glad to have Him in my life. Thank You, Lord.” Jerry couldn’t keep his smile from brightening his face.
“I couldn’t agree with you more. Let’s go into the kitchen and get some cool ice tea and you can tell me all about those lives you touched today.”
Becky and Jerry walked hand-in-hand as they made their way to the kitchen. Their lives were both changed and they were thankful and glad for that. Jesus really does put His joy in people’s lives and they were living proof of that.
