Frantically, she looked in every nook and cranny of the room, the cupboard, the bathroom and under the bed.
Gradually it came to her that her beloved ten year old son was not where she had left him.
"How can he leave without help? He cannot walk!" she said out loud.
"Nurse. Nurse." she called as she rang the bell.
Then she sensed a presence in the room.
She looked up and saw a beautiful man in a flowing gown of light. He wore a face of love. She knew it was an angel of the Lord.
"Where is my son?" she asked in great distress.
"Jesus took him home, my daughter, and he is now at peace. He has graduated to his heavenly home. He no longer has pain and you will see him again one day."
His presence filled her with such peace. After the angel left, her legs almost gave way so she sat on the bed.
Seconds later Nurse Jill came into the room. "Oh Mrs Jones, I have been trying to contact you. Your phone was turned off and I have some sad news,” she paused before continuing, “Little Jimmy is not here, as you can see." She sat down and put her arms around her. "I am so so sorry. He was asleep and we had no cause for concern. When the nurse did the hourly check, she found that he had stopped breathing. We tried to resuscitate him and failed. We followed your living will to the letter."
Connie felt a remarkable peace because she had had prior warning. How could she tell Nurse Jill that Jesus had sent an angel to tell her.
Remarkably, she was able to think and behave normally. Jimmy had given his life to the Lord as a very young child and frequently when in pain would say to her, "I have Jesus with me, Mom." He had more faith than she did. They had prayed together daily.
With tears she slowly drove home. Despite the grief and the pain the sense of peace remained. She would somehow have to tell the family and she prayed that the same comfort that was given to her would be given to them.
'He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.'{2 Cor 1:4 ESV} '
'But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.'
{1 Thessalonians 4:13 ESV}
Graduation to heaven may not be seen as a joyful thing especially when the person is young, but if we remember that when God's children die, they are going on to better things. Similarly, getting a college degree or completing high school with good grades may be laden with hard study to produce excellent achievements and then they graduate. When believers die they leave their body of flesh and graduate to heaven. As Paul wrote, “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
(2 Corinthians 5:1 ESV).
The heavenly message of young Jimmy's graduation hurt the family. They shed a lot of tears and comforted each other but they knew that he no longer had to spend a lot of time in hospitals or take pain medications.
