We all know people who are ‘talkers’.
They stand out in crowds. We see and hear them. In the Bible, we meet such a man. His name is Goliath. He is a giant among men, a Philistine and the enemy of Israel. He is defiant and challenging Israel to kill him. Israel feared him. Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.” {I.Samuel 17:24}.

Until David came, saw and heard Goliath’s boasts. In 1 Samuel 17:50, David kills him. "So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him”. Goliath is an example of ‘all talk and no action’. He was killed. ‘And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways, and the LORD was with him’. 1 Samuel 18:14.

In our daily life, we meet many ‘talkers’. Some cannot or do not act. Two such groups are politicians and local government officials. They verbally declare what they plan to do with great confidence. Their confident promises win our votes and our trust, but often time reveals the failure of so many of those promises. It was ‘all talk and no action!’.

Can we say the same about medicine?
So much talk about the cures that compliance with medications can bring. Doctors and nurses administer many drugs. Is this an example of ‘talk’? Unfortunately, the drugs do not always completely cure as promised and when they do there are often side effects to be treated.

Conversely, in the Bible, there are many prophetic promises about Jesus that were made by prophets like Isaiah, Zachariah and David. A lot of ‘talk’ about a promised Messiah.
“He would be called “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty God,” “Everlasting Father,” “Prince of Peace,” and would possess an everlasting kingdom” (Isaiah 9:6-7).
Jesus himself said; “You search the scriptures because you think that you have eternal life in them, and it is these that testify about me” {John 5:39}. Even his ride on a donkey in John 12:14 is prophesied. “See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey” {Zachariah 9:9}.

So, guess what! There was a lot of 'talk' and a lot of action! He did come. All the ‘talk’ became action. Therefore we can trust the Biblical talk.

Here is good 'talk'. Jesus promises to return for His Church, His Bride. "Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord". {1 Thessalonians 4:17}. He did not speak useless words and He will not fail to keep His promises.
