She had a wisdom beyond her years and it was hard to outwit her. A negative assessor once wrote of her "she is just like a cat!"
'A difficult child to raise' were the words of a foster mother.
Kat was used to rejection and had been fostered many times. Unfortunately, it seems, one of the foster parents had introduced her to the sex trade. So, Lillian took her on and with the women of the church prayed every day. A support group; you may say. She needed to be redeemed and loved or she would be lost and become a purveyor of wrong; so she needed Jesus in her heart.
There are so many girls like her in the sex trade; which we know is made up of unwanted lost girls who are bartered and sold by evil people. Psalm 36:4 speaks of those who do evil. "He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil."
Foundationally, Lillian knew that God's will for all women is one of honour. As declared by Peter,
"Let your adornment not be the external kind, braiding hair and putting on gold jewellery or putting on fine clothing, but the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is highly valuable in the sight of God." [1 Peter 3:3-4]
So, each day Lillian read the Bible with Kat and prayed with her before she left for school. She used to love and not condemnation. She sent her to a local Christian school; financially challenging but she needed to put the strong God armour around her charge.
Over time, Kat slowly revealed to Lil the painful events of her troubled childhood and each time they prayed for the persons involved and asked God to forgive all parties.
As the months and years came, everyone could see the change in Kat. She smiled more and no longer used wiles to trick others. Her grades were excellent and when she graduated from high school, her GPA was above 4.
Her headteacher applauded the change. "She is no longer 'sneaky'" she said with a smile.
Today Kat is involved in a ministry that helps young women and men who are being traded. She is an aggressive ambassador for good.
John's verse is her motto. [3 John 1:11 ]
"Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God".
