Psalm 27:14
If there were a word contrary to our culture today, couldn’t it be “wait?”
It’s almost as bad as “submission,” though not quite as loathsome.
We all acknowledge that the technological advances in our world today have conditioned us to expect results, and fast. We experience this sentiment at work, at home, and at play. And it sometimes makes us crazy when God doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to get back to us.
It could be waiting on direction on whether to take a job. It could be waiting for that someone special to realize we love them. It could be waiting to find out if the baby does indeed have a defect as suspected. It could be waiting on God to work in our marriage. It could be waiting at the unemployment office every day. It could be waiting on healing of the body, or more difficult still, healing of the mind.
It’s not comfortable.
It’s hard.
It’s scary.
We don’t like it.
And it’s invaluable to our growth in Christ.
So as torturous as it seems, let this be an encouragement to endure. The Bible tells us that Jesus himself is able to sympathize with our weaknesses, understanding and interceding for us (Hebrews 4:15). Fall before his throne of grace to obtain mercy to bear your wait!
