Carefully, gently, she laid the last minuscule egg under a special, chosen leaf. She knew her baby 'eating machine' would have enough food to grow. Now her fragile, colourful, wings could make their final brilliant display. A few days later, movement began in the egg as a tiny caterpillar no longer than a grain of rice chewed its way out. A large head with tireless jaws and 7 pairs of legs ensured its appetite will be satisfied at its instant walk-though 'eatery'. It grows and sheds skin several times. Then, attached to a twig, the caterpillar becomes a chrysalis while, inside the protective shell, an amazing transformation takes place. The casing becomes transparent as a butterfly struggles to be free. With delicate yet brilliant wings fully dry, it is free to fly displaying the miracle of metamorphosis.
In an even greater miracle, a precious, human fertilised egg nestles in a warm protective womb where he or she grows and is nourished by the mother. An amazing, complicated process which incredibly creates a human being from an egg is breathtakingly, gloriously, shown at birth.
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complete. Your workmanship is marvellous and how well I know it.
You watched as I was being formed in seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born.
Everyday of my life was recorded in your book every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”(Psalm 139:13-16)
We have all been there, experienced but not remembered 'the dark of the womb' or the blinding light of birth as we are released into 'the days recorded in His book'. God lovingly calls us, even as we take our first breath.
“Come to Me and experience my freedom, my perfect plan for you.”
Some hear during their lifetime and respond. Some don’t bother.
God is love and love is patient and kind so He waits, longingly, for all to respond. He delights when His creation receives Jesus and the Holy Spirit, for He knows there is so much more for those who do. He wants all to experience the abundant life that is found in surrender of self. That is why Jesus came.
“I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly”.(John10:10)
What joy to experience a life full of peace, joy and hope. To be secure in the Father's love and provision.
As 'the days recorded in His book' draw to an end we need not despair.
We have in us Christ the 'hope of glory' and the promises in God's Word.
“Our bodies now disappoint us, but when they are raised, they will be full of glory They are weak now but when they are raised they will be full of power.” (1 Cor. 15:43)
“Let me tell you a wonderful secret God has revealed to us. Not all of us will die, but we will all be transformed. It will happen in a moment, in the blinking of an eye when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, the Christians who have died will be raised with transformed bodies. And then we who are living will be transformed so that we will never die.”
(1 Cor. 15:51-53)
We will be released to this promise in Revelation 22:3-5 “No longer will anything be cursed. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there, no need for lamps or sun for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.”
Whenever you see a butterfly in all its colourful beauty and freedom, remember its transformation and ponder on the glory that waits for you when you are released from your earthly form.
