I love looking to the sky, whether blue or grey, windswept clouds or bright sunshine, I can almost see the Spirit of God hovering there. Often, in my Quiet Time devotions, I look up at the sky and imagine in that great expanse that my Lord looks down from heaven and hears my prayers. Thanksgiving, praise, petition, intercession all rise to the Creator of the universe who, on day two of his creation said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water … “ and it was so. God called the expanse “sky.” Genesis 1:6
He inhabits the Universe, He inhabits my part of the world and He inhabits me. Recently, in the inevitability of our ageing process, another friend left this earth to meet with his Maker and to be re-united with his wife. How do I know this? Because he had confessed his belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, who had paid the price for his redemption. He had received salvation from the consequences of a life without a relationship with Jesus who said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No-one comes to the Father but by me.” Sad though it is to lose someone on this earth, we who believe have the assurance of meeting again, and being invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Revelation 19:9.
How different from the sadness of losing someone who had refused to believe. I pondered the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:14. "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned"
.
How distressing it is when a scoffer has faced the final threshold and refused to acknowledge the need for safety. We can’t say whether, in those last moments, there was an opportunity to repent and, like the thief on the cross beside Jesus, find forgiveness.
2 Corinthians 4:6 proclaims, “For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the Glory of God in the face of Christ.”
When Jesus walked on earth we met Him at the Wedding Feast in Cana when He turned water into wine, the symbol used when we take Communion and remember His Blood shed for us. (John 2:1-12)
2 Timothy 1:12 reminds me that I know whom I have believed and am convinced that He is able to keep that which I have entrusted to Him against that day.
It is a knowledge not to be taken lightly for in Matthew 7:21-23 we read that Jesus spoke to those who had looked for self-worth rather than trusting in Him, and said “Away from me, I never knew you.”
How much better to take heed of Proverbs 3:5&6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
In John 14:1 -4 we are told that Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for us, which will be that same place where we receive a new name. That name will be on the Wedding invitations for the celebration of the Wedding Supper of Jesus the Bridegroom to His Bride the Church of believers. Are you on the invitation list?
I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39.
