Answered Prayer

Jayne prayed fervently
“Lord you know how my heart hurt when our beautiful daughter Megan,
left us after finishing high school, and moved into a house with her boyfriend. You know, too, how shattered I felt when her two brothers left church eighteen months before that. Thank you there is communication with Tim and Jamie, but it has been so long since we heard from Megan please prompt her to call.”

Jayne wiped away tears and swallowed some coffee, remembering Tim
telling her recently
“Megan split with Jason a while ago, and is now living in Erdington working at a child care centre.”
She'd received no more news and was trusting the Lord to work in the situation.

Later that day the phone rang. It was Megan.
“Hi Mum, it's me. Guess what? I'm engaged!”

“Thank you Lord!” was Jayne's immediate silent acknowledgement.
Jayne could only reply
“Hi Megan it's lovely to hear your voice. How are you and congratulations. Who are you engaged to?”
“Simon Preston he's a plumber. You'll like him Mum! We want to come
over next weekend so you can meet him.”

Jayne realized as Megan walked through the door, how much she had missed her gorgeous smile and bright eyes. Simon, tall, blond and well built shook hands and smiled politely as Megan showed off her sparkling ring.
At first it was awkward, but eventually everyone relaxed and appeared to enjoy the visit. Allan and Jayne hoped they would be happy. Simon seemed to really care for their daughter.

Megan's renewed relationship with her parents was improving, but Jayne noticed, during their phone calls, Megan had lost some of her bubbly personality. She sounded almost timid. But when questioned, she reassured her mum, everything was fine.

Jayne's concerns proved to be well founded when a couple of weeks later Megan rang and asked tearfully “Mum I'm pregnant can I come home? Simon scares me. The other night he held me down on the bed and yelled and screamed at me. He got really annoyed because I hadn't put his clothes away properly. I've not said anything before, I thought it might get better but it's not. It's getting worse.”

“Oh Megan! How awful. We will work something out.” Jayne answered
“Ring tomorrow when it's safe to talk.”

Both Jayne and Allan were worried. With Simon's behaviour Megan and her baby were in danger.

It was decided Megan would persuade Simon to let her have a holiday at home. Knowing her parents were Christians, he believed they would insist on their marriage now she was pregnant. The plan worked. Simon agreed. Allan and Jayne moved Megan home.

Simon angrily, tried to persuade her to return. Whenever he called Megan reverted to a timid fearful individual. Gradually, though her confidence grew. She became brave enough to say the engagement was over and returned his ring. Simon,still annoyed eventually gave up.

What about the baby? Life as a single mum would be difficult but having an abortion was not an option. That left adoption as a solution. Megan started to make enquiries.
Jayne and Allan prayed for her to have courage to keep the baby.

One day, during her prayer time, Jayne felt the Lord say
“Help Megan find all the information she needs about adoption.”
Jayne was astounded that couldn't be right. Asking again, the same
answer came. “Help her find the information.”

Trusting the Lord, she worked with Megan, discussing details, and talking things through. They located an adoption counsellor and Megan arranged an appointment.
Jayne prayed fervently at home.

Her heart was pounding as she heard her daughter's footsteps in the hall. The kitchen door opened. Megan threw her handbag onto the table and flopped grumpily into the chair.
“Well, she hasn't dealt with adopting out her own child. I don't see
how she can help others!”
All her frustrations. spilled out.
“That was a complete waste of time I am so annoyed. Now what will
I do?"

“Let's wait and see what happens” said Jayne “I'll make us a cup of tea shall I?”
“Thanks Mum” she sighed
“ Oh, by the way, I saw Deb from church, I'm having coffee with her tomorrow!”

Megan recommitted her life to Christ by the time Phillip was born and became a devoted mother.

As she rocked her grandson, Jayne realized annoyance had caused violence and separation but thankfully, another annoyance had helped save his life.
