"I miss you so much baby boy."
Victor hadn't been a baby for many years, but to lose him in his twenty-eighth year still felt way too early. His life had been a struggle from the start. A congenital heart ailment ensured that he would never live a normal life, but then again who lived a normal life.
"You were such a gift to me."
Her son had packed so much into his few years on the earth. His illness had developed in him an empathy for the needs of others. His work as a counselor for the addicted fit him so perfectly. He understood what it was to struggle and he truly cared about each person he worked with. She was so proud of her boy. He daily exceeded her greatest expectations.
"Each day you taught me so much."
She allowed herself to recall each person who had spoken of being touched by Victor. He saw their shining faces, through the tears, speaking of a young man who gave and gave until he had nothing left to give. It was said that the brightest stars shone for the shortest time and in his short time he shone so bright. She was sad. She missed her boy so much. But, she was full of so much love and happiness. God had given her a gift, if for only a short time, a beautiful, wonderful gift.
"I will come to you soon baby boy."
She loved life, but she missed her boy. She would live with the joy of having had such a wonderful son and remember every day the wonder of the gift that he had been in her life. She looked forward to that day when they would be reunited and they would together look into the face of God.
"One day, baby boy, one day."
