So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
Chapter 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
When I came to the Lord as a believing adult, graduating from my initial profession of faith and belief as a child to a desire for commitment to His Lordship, my first comment was heartfelt. “Lord, I’ve made a mess of things. Will you please now take control of my life as I submit wholly to your will and your way for me?”
How grateful I am that I do not have to kneel in humiliation at the Throne of Judgment to have my sins made public. They have been cast into the deepest sea with the sign ‘No Fishing’ over them. Yet more telling is that they have been separated as far apart from me as the East from the West.
As one who is technologically and directionally disadvantaged – turn me round twice I will be lost, and don’t ask me to do anything more complex than to google a question – I know that east and west are irrevocably and permanently separated.
My sins; that’s misbehaviours and misadventures, commissions and omissions, but most of all not honouring my God. I had made a confession of belief, but not allowed His Lordship. My God is a jealous God. He deserves more than being relegated to a back shelf, while we pursue our own thoughts and ideas, doing our thing without real consultation. Making a god of our own self-will; it’s a common thing these days.
In my walk with the Lord more wonderful aspects have been disclosed. In the forgiveness of my transgressions is the admonition that I am to forgive others as I have been forgiven. That makes me realise that loved ones in heaven now, in their relationship with God Almighty, El Shaddai, have also embraced the issue of forgiveness. I am not going to have to apologise for all those things that haunted me in relationships in which I can no longer make amends. In those incidences where there was a misunderstanding about my attitude or disappointing behaviour there will now be an acceptance and agreement on our united fellowship.
How exciting it is to know that when we take up residence in our eternal home there will be no unsettling issues to resolve.
As a new creation – in the light of eternity – I am a work in progress. As a living sacrifice I am still tempted to arrange myself on the altar in the most advantageous position. I have not and cannot reach perfection but I take to heart that with Christ in me, like Paul, I can press on, forgetting what is behind, and keeping short accounts. The enemy has then no unsettled claims to embarrass me with as I reach forward to what is ahead.
What a comfort is Isaiah 43:25. I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.
