The hall was very quiet, the preacher was talking low. Not a kid was crying out; even the fans were moving slow. It was a message all wanted to hear. Not one man left the Hall. The preacher cried “Come one and all; come to Christ before you lose your soul.” The guitar man was playing a tune sweet and low. One went forward to the altar. No one else moved out of place. Preacher started walking up and down aisles looking close, for salvation in each face. When he came in front of me, he bent down. Just as his face got close to mine, I sneezed!

The preacher fell backwards, knocking Sister Gail off her chair into Brother Hargis, Brother Hargis tumbled into Mr. White and the entire congregation burst out of their seats, trying to get out of the way and to help up the ones that fell.

“Preacher,” I called to him as he got up, wiping spit off his face. “Will I go to Hell for sneezing in your face?”

“No, Sue, sneezing’s not a sin.” His face was one big grin.

Then, very seriously, slow and studiously, he asked; “Do you believe in Jesus?”
“Yes,” I sobbed, wiping tears from my face.

“Confess your sins and be saved.” Preacher entreated as he took my hand and led me to the front.
The congregation had stilled again, not a one had left.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe Sue is the first person ever to get saved because of a sneeze! Praise the Lord!”

Hallelujahs and praises from the congregation rose toward heaven. Preacher turned to the other new convert, motioning him forward.

“Saints, lets us welcome two new souls to Christ’s army.” Preacher sobbed happy tears as he spoke. It was a very good morning.

This happened twenty years ago. I have sneezed my way to a very close walk with the Lord. Each time my allergies make me sneeze I remember what a wonderful Savior I have and thank Him for my life, and for inventing tissues. Amen.

Almost bordered on funny, but the reality of the situation made it special. Proof your entry in preview and some spacing issues might clear up.

I love the way you built up the tension in the opening sentences (and the use of rhyme), and then the chaos that ensued after the sneeze. I felt like I was there!

A wonderful story. The rhythm and rhyme of the first three lines almost sound like poetry.

I really like how the totally unexpected sneeze provides a little humor in the midst of a serious moment. Good job with this!
