In she went, with some alarm,
It was her duty after all,
To keep that baby from all harm.
Out she came when baby stirred,
Mustn’t wake him up just yet.
Shh!.... tiptoeing, not a word;
Have the laundry still to get.
In later years, it was the kids,
In and out the kitchen door.
Impatiently she stood and yelled,
“You’re messing up the floor! ”
Yet still they circled through the house,
And they were safe within her sight.
She knew always where they were,
and smoothed their blankets every night.
Then came the day when they were teens,
Oh my, a new game had begun!
How to guard and guide their steps,
She oft would say, was “less than fun! ”
As they came in, and then went out,
She only hoped they’d be secure.
Were they choosing godly friends
that would help them to be pure?
When college days came into view,
The going “out” was more than “in,”
She wondered how she’d let them go,
The world so full of sin!
From her heart there came a prayer,
“Father, help in midst of wrong! ”
“Of course, my child, did you not see
It was I Who did it all along?”
