I was on pins and needles waiting to hear all the wonderful stories about their adventures. When they returned, she spent hours recanting all their incredible tales. They were all so amazing for a country girl like me. She told me how they had walked almost everywhere they went. And how everywhere they went, they stayed in a small Bed and Breakfast or in extra rooms that families would rent out. She said the people were so welcoming and loving. She explained how they found that some of the best places in the world to eat were the small hole-in-the-wall cafes, as these places seem to have the most realistic and authentic food.
It was all wonderful, but my favorite part was when they got to Rhome. They had been blessed enough to stay in a place where they could see the Coliseum from their room. She said it was hard to imagine how much history had taken place in such a small area. She teared up when explaining how humbling it was to be in the same places as the disciples. They traveled the same roads, and even though it was surely different 2000 years later, it was the same. It seemed to give her a stronger connection with Paul especially.
Even now, it gives my spirit a rush to imagine being so close to the very people who changed the world forever. Someday I hope to visit some of those historical and mesmerizing places.
