O, thou lovely Christmas tree
What upon thy head doth mar
But softly lit of brightness star
Instead of thorn and thistle bear
O fragrant evergreen so fair
Within thy branches draped of love
Thy Savior sent us from above
Twinkling glow thy amber light
Removing sorrow from its plight
Splinter’s wood with rusted nail
A Savior’s love which did not fail
A rumble from the ground did see
That this was truly Christmas tree
Perched in branches deep within
The One who took away my sin
So as I gaze upon this tree
I see what price you paid for me
Grief erased to find such joy
The gift of grace for girl and boy
Come now and celebrate with me
The testimony of this tree
The graceful branch of our God
His name is Jesus whom I laud
O little bird you built your nest
On such a tree the Lord did rest
I will choose to build there too
And give my life to be made new
