Is what my cousin did say
As he tried to convince me
To go steal the old hen’s egg
That rascal never told me
How ornery that hen was
Or that she’d fly right at me
Flapping wings and raisin’ fuss
Not one word did he offer
Not one syllable was said
No word to warn of danger
I walked blindly where he led
Into the old chicken coop
I tried hard to be sneaky
Inching my way in a stoop
Avoiding boards so creaky
What a scary shock it was
When I looked and saw that hen
She’d puffed up to twice her size
And was looking mean as sin
There we stood in that small coop
A standoff of beak to snout
She aimed to give me the boot
I just wanted to get out
What happened next was a blur
The old hen launched her attack
My arms flapping did not detour
Or convince her to get back
Yes she soundly whooped my tail
Her fierce flogging forced retreat
Not one egg was I to steal
Yes I left there in defeat
That’s my story of a dare
That happened out in the sticks
I bit off more than my share
And I got my hinny kicked
Now you know my tragic tale
Written here in these few words
When I tried to steal the egg
From the hen “Godzilla-Bird”
