Topic: Memory (07/10/08)
I lost what I cannot seem to find
I wish that the object would come to my mind
Could it be a person, place, thing or idea?
Is it something to find at the galleria?

If I could remember what it was that I lost
I would buy it back whatever the cost
I have searched from the east to way out in the west
From places I don’t know to those I know best

Still there’s no finding of what I don’t know
I have searched in the heights and valleys below
Where are you, whatever you are that I missed?
So I sat myself down and started a list

You can’t be my sister of whom I don’t speak
Nor the brother who is so awkward and weak
There is no one to ask; I’m not speaking to those
I have lost all memory of them as I chose

Bad thoughts have replaced any good memory
Oh what am I missing; what could it be?
There’s a hole in my heart; blank thoughts in my head
Any good memories are as good as dead

The moral of this poem is easy to see
She refuses each and every good memory
Her light is now dim to all that was fine
Now her heart is missing where she drew the line

When we dwell on only the bad not the good
Our view is slanted and not as it should
If only she would open her eyes just to see
That she has misplaced every good memory!

Your poem that illustrates how we must think on what is good in order to have good memories represents the Scripture verse well.

Memory is such a precious thing. It IS too bad that good memories are often blocked out by bad...Your poem illistrates this well. The scripture at the end ties it all together...Good!...Helen

So true. So very, very true. I had a hard time following the meter a couple of times, but enjoyed the poem very much.

Great message in an easy to read poem. Unfortunately, we all know too many people who have this problem.

This is a good, thought provoking poem. I like the way you wrote it, too, wondering where the lost memories have gone.
I have one suggestion - try to keep the "show, don't tell" policy in mind. It is usually best to avoid a phrase like "The moral of this poem is easy to see".
Keep up the good work!
