My eyes can clearly see
The life that I am living here
Is slowly killing me
I strayed so far and lost so much
No further can I fall
There's nowhere else for me to go
Nowhere else at all
So long ago I walked away
Deceived by freedom's call
Lived a selfish, wasteful life
I wasn't free at all
My father's memory in my mind
Stirs in me to return
I have to think there is a chance
My presence he'll not spurn
Perhaps a servant, I can be
And work upon his land
I've lost my right to be his son
That much I understand
I hear a shout from far away
And lift my eyes to see
Someone's running arms outstretched
He's drawing near to me
I feel his deep and warm embrace
His tears upon my brow
That he should show such depth of love
To me - I don't know how!
My father's heart is open wide
He bids me come inside
Not as a servant, but a son
With him I will abide
So lost was I but now I'm found
Was dead, but now I live
I've nothing in these empty hands
Except my love to give
