Valentines Day is a rip off! Yes, you heard it here first. Marketers around the world banded together musing, “How can we snatch another couple of hundred from the pockets of men around the world?” And they came up with Valentines Day, thinly disguised as a day of love. Think I’m making it up? Let’s look at the jingles we all hear from the middle of January until the fateful day:-

“Every Kiss Begins With Kay…”
“When You Care Enough To Send The Very Best…”
“Melts In Your Mouth Not In Your Hand…”

Ever notice the commercials are directed towards men? “Guys, buy this ring, necklace, earrings, chocolate, flowers and you too will get the girl and live happily ever after!” At no time is there ever a commercial adjuring the girl to buy the boy a gift.

And what’s with power tools anyway? The girl gets flowers, jewelry, and candy. If the girl bothers to buy her guy anything it comes straight from Home Depot. It is a ploy, a mean plot by the media to make the man work harder. Well, I refuse to give in to this! Men of the world unite! Let’s take a stand – no longer will we be pawns in the game called Marketing; once more to the breach let us go – we will hold on to our hard-earned money, refusing to relinquish control to a nameless, faceless monopoly!

Men, let us show our wives and girlfriends we love them every day – why wait for a special ‘reserved’ day created by Hallmark and its denizens to bring in added revenues? Tell her daily you love her, bring her flowers more than once a decade to make up after a spat, buy her jewelry ‘just because’ and honor her as God’s creation. Make her the Queen of your life and your house every day of the year, and you will find yourself the King of your domain before you know it.

The Father instructs us all to love one another, why cling to the world’s standard of demonstrating that once a year, let’s do it constantly.

As for me, well I am going to bring in that bouquet of flowers from the car before it wilts and spend some time with my Valentine!

This sounds like a plot from the corporate execs to trick us into buying flowers and cards and chocolates all year long! ROFL! I loved the humor here. Great piece!
