Scene 1
Making amends for slavery.

“Jack Smithfield, here is your compensation for the 300 years of slavery that your ancestors and your family endured on the Baker estate. The nation wishes to make amends and put right what had been stolen. We hope things will change for the better in you and your families’ lives”.
Those spoken words were made into law by The Supreme Court of the nation, with the hope that their poverty would be removed and that by publicly acknowledging wrongdoing, the descendants' dignity would be restored. It also raised public awareness about the harm that slavery incurred.
Descendents of slaves were to be compensated financially!!
“Of course, no amount of money could heal the pain nor the inhumane horrors they had suffered; but the nation was seeking to have better relationships with the freed people, they hoped that this would be a step forward.” commented a TV reporter.

Scene 2.
Reformed in prison.

Hundreds of men of various ages, races, and social backgrounds had been sent to jail as a way to amend or change them for the better. Judges had sentenced them to serve time in jail and this included hard labor and reform classes. This was a way for the criminals to amend their behavior and be punished for the harm they had done to society.
Within the prison, local Reform programs run by chaplains were started. Their main goals were to train and educate the men so that on their return to society they would not resume criminality. The chaplains wished to make them into better men by ministering to them; thus opening their eyes to their choices in society. The goals were for them
*to leave the prison as better men who were followers of Christ,
*to be better fathers,
*to be good husbands, and
*to be law-abiding citizens.

Such a man, a thief who became a reformed criminal, is found in the Bible; “And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42–43)
‘The thief on the cross next to Jesus went from being a curser to a convert! From a blasphemer to a believer! From a criminal to a Christian! '

Scene 3.
In the Kingdom of God.

The Father created humans without sin; until they were tempted and used their free will to fall into sin. They choose to do wrong. Humans inherited that curse.
The sins that we humans commit endanger us and separate us from God, who is the source of all life. There is only one way to repair the relationship; it is called Atonement; thus we can stay close to God
The only way to atone for and completely amend the sins that followed the fall of humanity in the Abrahamic Covenant was to make regular animal blood sacrifices in very orderly God-ordained ways. The Jewish Levitical Priests were assigned the task.

However,in the New Covenant, The Son of God was assigned to be The atoning sacrifice. Christ Jesus could and did atone, paid for and made amends for the sins of all men; “He did not enter using the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption” {Hebrews 9:12}.
He was The perfect man and The perfect Sinless Son of God; sent to earth as the child of a Jewish virgin.
He amended, ‘righted the wrong’, changed, and deleted the curse of sin by laying his life down. He righted the wrong that Adam did and changed the course of history.

We no longer obey ‘Ten Commandments’; instead we
‘ love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength..and we love our neighbors as we love ourselves!” {Mark 12:30-31}.

Crucified for our sins; Jesus became The Way back to God, through faith.
