TITLE: Melody Has Found Her Place Among God's People | Previous Challenge Entry

She was not always this way. It was after she was saved that her entire outlook on life changed. One day, someone came to her door and witnessed to her.
The person at the door said, “Would you like to know how to get to heaven?”
She responded the first time someone asked her about going to heaven by replying, “I don’t care if I go there or not, the other place might be better!”
The callers at the door were not put off by this careless attitude; they had seen it lots of times before. In fact, they said sometimes, “If someone is really bold and tells us off the first few times we call, we might have somebody who is running from God and will turn around and embrace Him later.”
Everyone at church prayed for Melody, that she would soften her heart and listen to the gospel. The monthly visits to her home at first were greeted by frowns and often distain toward the visitors who forced themselves upon her. She was not in the least interested in anything to do with God.
One week she exclaimed, “Why don’t you go bother someone who gives a hoot? I am not going to come to your church, no matter how much you bug me. I don’t care about God or what He thinks in the least.” Melody had decided long ago that she and God were not speaking.
After a while, Melody seemed a little more receptive to the message. She said things like, “Oh, well. Don’t know why I have concern for anything you have to say.”
A few months later she replied, “Okay, I will visit your church once. But if anyone says anything to offend me, I won’t be back. I don’t like people who offend me.”
Another lady picked Melody up at her place and drove her to church. Melody did not like to go to strange places because she thought she would have to drive there. “No sense gittin’ myself lost first time I visit your church,” she quipped.
Melody liked everyone she met that first day. No one pressured her to commit to anything. She even seemed to enjoy the sermon. “I am not going to do anything about Jesus, at least not right now. You all gave me a lot to think ‘bout. I have lots of questions. Like, was Jesus really God or is He just making it all up? After all, He could make it up.”
Well, the next week several of the ladies tried to talk to her about the Lord. The consensus of the group was that she needed to visit with several ladies as well as the pastor.
He started off by asking Melody if she knew she had sinned. She said she knew she had. Then he asked, “Do you know Jesus died so you can go to heaven for all eternity?”
She was surprised by that. Melody said, “I didn’t think anyone, especially God, cared about me much at all. I figured I was in the way and just like a bunion on someone’s foot. I didn’t think He cared.”
“Yes, He cares. He doesn’t want you to spend eternity in an awful place called Hell. He wants you to receive Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. Will you do that now?”
Melody began to weep. She did not expect to have this reaction. She had always been the type to be brazen and devil may dare. Suddenly she saw it clearly. She did not have to put on an act to impress anyone.
Jesus was ready to accept her as she was, right then!
Melody knelt there in her living room and received her Lord, while her friends prayed with her and provided affirmation of her decision.
Seven years have passed since that March afternoon. Melody was so happy; she was beside herself when she realized her sins were forgiven.
She did not know what to do after receiving Christ, but her friends helped her and she began witnessing to others. Several weeks later, she was baptized.
Today she is happy and she tells others about the Lord whenever she can.
