It’s a good size town now, but imperfect in its design, as not enough forethought went into planning in the early years.
Streets are identified with a mesmerizing mix of names such as “Anguish Ave.”, “Desperation Dr.”, “Sadness St.”, “Heartache Ln.” intertwined with “Joyful Junction”, “Blessed Blvd.” and “Salvation Springs”.
I know the intricacies of My Town well, and can navigate through the maze-like jumble with ease to get wherever I need to go.
Visitors, however, are quickly frustrated as they begin to sense the layout is almost impossible to decipher.
There is a shortcut that leads to my home, but it is unmarked and highly secluded; impossible to see from the main roadways.
There is no map to follow and, to the outsider, seemingly no logic to the lay of the land.
The narrow roads are often one-way streets leading to nowhere.
Taking a wrong turn and losing your bearings is inevitable in this place that has been constructed with so much difficulty, loss and regret.
Get off the highway at the wrong place and you will find yourself traveling in circles with little hope of finding my residence.
If you wish to visit My Town, it’s best to meet me on the outskirts.
Unlike the convolution inside the city limits, the roads around the edges of town are well marked and easy to travel.
There are a few sites to see out there, destinations that even hold a few secrets; nuggets of treasure that can be uncovered without too much excavation.
These “safe harbors” are monuments mainly erected to pacify the casual observer but anyone interested in actually seeing the heart of the town must make a visit to the grassy mountain locale known as Mt. Prideful - the town dump, filled with the garbage collected over a lifetime.
It is a dirty place, stinky, downright unpleasant, but it is only when what is in the dump is revealed that one can look at me and catch a glimpse of the power and the grace of God.
This is the revelation that illuminates the hidden pathway to my home and my heart.
You are welcome to visit My Town.
We can meet and do some sightseeing together.
Mt Prideful is open, and you won’t likely find it overcrowded.
