Weary, isolated, and lonely, the days are barely tolerable, and nights seem endless. I roam from room to room, chair to chair, and with each passing moment I pray for the pandemic’s end; which seems will never come. Tinkering has become a mindless habit as I attempt to pass the time. How seamlessly my mind slips from my current reality to reliving events and recalling those special people in my life. I had always considered a trip down memory lane to mean time with family and friends; over coffee perhaps and pouring over old photos albums. More often now than not, I find the trip through my mind takes turns to what was just my everyday life, just weeks ago. My work, my colleagues, my clients; they now come to the forefront of my thoughts. As I sit with a cup of tea, which has long gone cold, I close my eyes and think of my office, what I would be doing right now, had our lives not been overtaken by an invisible enemy. It is at this time that I recall those memories of Sunday school classes, a bit farther back down the lane. I recall feeling safe, feeling loved, and always a sense of hope during difficult times. I see the verses in my mind and feel them in my heart and while they do not come rushing at me, they wash over and fill my memory. I shall fear not, for Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. It is at this moment that I realize I can choose the path I will take, day to day, and thought to thought as I travel my memory lane.
