“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
That seems to me a good starting point. I remember in my early days of trying to put everything together in my relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, I decided that as God is God and I am not, His Word would be my guide. I recollect with some amusement some of the revelations I discovered once I really started to look for myself, and embarked on my walk with His Holy Spirit as my director.
Some bad habits were thrown out willy-nilly at the realisation my body was a temple and as such not to be mistreated or ill-fed. I realised that the church was not a building but a place where believers gathered, and that the believers were the church. There are some things that even many non-believers would not do in a church, so my body as a temple was sacrosanct. There were many other bodies around who did not know the wealth of the knowledge that was filling my hitherto weary heart so I embraced the mission of sharing the Good News. Oh, the adventures we had as one thing led to another and an intercessory prayer group was started. The fields were green and the harvest plentiful so no shortage of adventure in the Lord. Romans became a special book, Ephesians became a signpost to pray for so many and I guess I could go on to name the meaningful scriptures that so blessed our hearts.
Now I am back in the land of my birth; a land that was so mission-oriented, that enjoyed spectacular revivals in the last century, and that was proud to be known as a Christian country. And my heart breaks for the lack of knowledge, the misunderstandings of ‘freedom’ and the eagerness with which false teachings are accepted, while Christian viewpoints are considered as infringing on human rights.
Why is the Bible not present in so many homes, not visible or not believed? How can laws, originally based on God’s Commands, become so distorted and against His teachings?
Blessed as believers we know we need each other’s fellowship so do not give up meeting together. (Hebrews 10:25). Because we are a mighty army, we put on the full armour of God, (Ephesians 6:10-18) and we try to show by our lifestyles that we are set apart, holy. No we are not judgmental or hate-oriented when we have strong feelings about the fundamental Truth of our Lord and the Word.
What is needed to bring back those basic principles in our world today? For I see again the times of Noah, the gods of Babylon, the problems brought on by disobedience to Romans 1:18ff, and wonder, if the beginning is missed, what will be the end?
I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. (Revelation 22:16) and He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
