The words form on his lips to yell for help but no sound comes out. He stumbles to his feet to seek assistance but falters as the left side of his body goes limp. He slides down the bed and slumps to the floor. Complete darkness envelops him.
As Lonney stirs, he shields is eyes from the brilliant light that pierces through the darkness. He watches as the flickering embers turn into blazing flames. The dancing lights intertwine and encircle around the face of Jesus.
He gazes at the man with a short beard and medium brown hair. Lonney recognizes the Lord from the portrait he has seen as a child.
On his waist is a belt, the likes of which Lonney has never seen before. No human hand could have crafted such an intricate design. The translucent shards of crystalline seem to come alive in the light. A thin layer of shimmering gold adds to its opulence.
His pulse quickens and his heart leaps in his throat. He edges back a step.
“Is that you Lord? Have you come to take me home to heaven?”
Lonney hears a gentle voice whisper in his ear but the mouth of Jesus remains unmoved.
“No. I have appointed you a messenger to prepare my people for my return.”
“Lonney, what do you see?
He says, “I see a sheepfold.”
The Lord says, “You have seen well, for I need my sheep to be ready upon my return. I need them to know the truth that I am the only way.”
He heard the voice of the Lord a second time saying, “what do you see?”
He says, “I see a refiner’s fire.”
My people will go through some fiery trials in the days to come. I plan to burn off the dross that has tarnished their hearts and transform them into the purest of gold and silver. I want them to bring me offerings of righteousness.
He begs Christ to stay in this place full of warmth and tender love. Never again would he have a fear of the unknown.
When he awakes in the hospital from his coma, he is glad to be alive. No more missed opportunities to share with others the hope of the future. He is about to be thrown into the fiery furnace and come out unscathed.
