Seek Me and Live, Amos 5:4

There is an incongruous malady abroad in our land today – a malady of the heart. Many people, all of whom are loved intensely by their Creator God, are rejecting the very Author of life and courting the culture of death. Their attitude diminishes their quality of earthly life and, if continued in, precludes the hope of eternal life.

It is neither mentally sensible nor scientifically credible for anyone to posit his belief system in the camp of those who say they do not need God in their lives. The fact of the matter is they already have God in their lives if they want him or not. They could not survive without Him. He is the Creator, Provider, and Sustainer of their very existence. It is the height of arrogance and folly to place oneself on the throne of one’s life because that one will be dethroned. Life is not sustained by one’s own life.

“Seek me and live” is a striking invitation of clarity and truth. It is spoken from both a heart of love with an inverse warning of death if one snubs the invitation. Humble acceptance of this invitation inoculates one against the incongruous malady.

“Come along side Me and let’s enjoy life.” That is what God is inviting us to do. He did not just throw some chemicals or atoms or molecules together to see what the result would be when He created us. His plan was for us to be saturated and infatuated with life. Life has the capacity to go where its counterpart, death, can never venture. The culture of death seeks to deceive, debilitate, and destroy. It has its roots in the environs of Satan. When the culture of death latches on to the mind of a person it is like a physical disease in the spiritual malady that is occurring. Not so with the seeker of the life provided by the Creator.

He Who never gets weary or faint, gives power to the weak, and increases strength to those who have no might is the sole Source of life that delights. To seek Him and live is to be renewed in strength, fly like the eagle, run with vigor, and walk with unflagging enthusiasm. (See Isaiah 40) This seeking cancels the curse and embraces eternal life.

I agree with your article. People seem to have no room any more for God in their lives. So many have fallen away from their first love.
