The dictionary defines gambling, amongst many things, as a 'wager against odds', 'an opportunity to profit by risking what one already has'.
Life is full of gambles ; in fact almost everything a human being does invokes gambling at least to a certain degree.
When we choose a job, we essentially gamble on the premise that the job we chose will work out better than every alternative.
When we choose a spouse, we gamble on our futures as a married couple, hopeful that we are making the best possible choice.
Even taking a vacation ; choosing a school for our kids ; buying a home ; finding the best possible church ; trusting that something we loaned, will be retuned as agreed. All these at least to a certain degree, involve taking a risk ; gambling that our choice is the best of all alternatives ; that our instincts will ultimately preserve our general well being.
The primary reason that all these options involve risk is because of an unavoidable inclusion. The inclusion of mankind and the complicit nature of our pre eternal condition. For until we see Him face to face, we will be compromised by our inherent sinful natures.

Numbers 23:19
"God is not man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will he not do it? Or has He spoken, and will he not fulfill it?"
Fortunately as believers there is a surety to which we can cling. For in the of God, personified in His Son, we have an irrevocable guarantee. This is not a promise that in any way, requires us as participants. We don't in any way, influence the promises of God.
However, we can and we should, rest in those promises. For it is in His promises that the hope of mankind is laid. It's the dependence on Him and His guarantee to love and never forsake, that we can breath the largest sighs of relief, in a world that is increasingly chaotic.
For it's in Him and Him alone, that the sting of death is no longer threatening ; that the fear of misfortune or disease, is neutralized ; that the absurdities of life in 2016, are little more than bewildering as opposed to terrifying, and understandably so.

In this life full of gambles and uncertainties and confusion, there is a promise to which we can depend. For God in His ultimate grace has provided us with a virtual trump card, ensuring us that our relationship with Him can never be compromised by anything the world could ever throw our way ; a resolute 'sure thing'.
We need never gamble on God, but rather should rest in His promises.
Deuteronomy 13:6
*Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.
