Each breath we take is a fresh start, a do-over because Our Father is the God of Second Chances.
Regardless if you make New Year’s resolutions or not (I don’t) we can begin anew every second of every day for the rest of our lives. That last slip up … it is history. We cannot go back in time to change what happened. BUT, we can change the very moment we live in – the present – and make progress for tomorrow’s success.
Tomorrow’s Results Ultimately Start Today (TRUST). It’s about TRUST in one’s self to make choices that support our commitments. And TRUST in the Holy Spirit to whisper “Over here – this is the path you said you wanted to take.” whenever we veer off course which happens so easily, subtly, and cunningly. At least it does for me. Do you struggle with falling off course?
Then let’s turn to the God of Second Chances.
If we blow our commitment today to a new attitude, improving self worth, better self care, etc., we can get back up and start again. Just take in a big fresh breath of air and begin a do-over. No one’s counting how many times we start over. What hobbles us is the strength it takes to get back up and try again.
Run to the God of Second Changes for help.
When attempting positive changes, I find it disheartening going from my GUSTO starts that slip into half-hearted attempts that often lead to abandonment. Then guilt and remorse set in only making things worse. If you can relate, you likely also feel an inner bargaining trying to settle in. I’ll start again tomorrow, or Monday, or next month, or I’ll wait until January 1 rolls around again. We can talk ourselves into deception, and believe its false promises, which is exactly the endless cycle we are so desperately trying to fix.
Then let’s sprint to the God of Second Chances.
He’s waiting for us - with every breath we take to say, “Guide me. Lead me Lord. I am weak. You are strong.”
Tomorrow’s results ultimately start today. Rather than trying again on willpower alone rest in the arms of our God of Second Chances. Ask Him to be your coach. He is always available, there are no contracts to sign, no monthly fees to pay, just please, thank you, and I love you will do.
Take in a fresh breath of air and talk to our God of Second Chances!
