Thanks so much for the beautiful Birthday Card, you're so sweet to remember.
Nobody believes me when I tell them I was delivered to a hospital in Utica, New York in the U.S. of A. via a stork. They laugh when I tell them it was cold with no clothes on, and that I dangled in an open, frigid-air diaper held in the beak of a long legged bird for hours until he finally swooped down, dropped me off at the Emergency Entrance where my parents were waiting - and then flew off to 'pick-up' another " Bundle-Of-Joy" from some unknown place, to fly it posthaste to another set of parents waiting at another hospital, in another city, and on another continent located on planet Earth.
Okay, so my mythical tale is a bit too far-fetched to believe; but I was just trying to paint my homeland in the most unique way possible,..and to fly into the USA on the Stork Airlines was the best idea I could come up with at the moment.
Now I have another tall tale that people won't believe. - but this one is absolutely true. Honest! Eleven USA Presidents have celebrated my birthday down through the years in downtown Washington DC. They've had a parade of marching bands from all over the USA, colorful balloons, dress up parties and dancing in the streets that continue all day and night. And next week as you know, is my birthday, and guess what? The new 44th President of the USA will continue the practice!
They are having a huge birthday bash for me this year! And I'm sure this Celebration will go down in the History Books. Isn't that exciting?
To the world, January 20 is advertised as being " Inauguration Day" in the USA - but to my way of thinking - it's America turning out to celebrate my birthday. And ONLY in the USA could this happen to an unknown nobody!
On January 20, 1961 a blizzard filled the streets of Washington with snow...but they still celebrated my birthday as JFK was inaugurated.
On January 20, 1965, LBJ was the Host of my party.
On January 20, 1977, it was cold, but sunny in Washington when Jimmy Carter walked instead of rode down the Street in the Washington DC parade with his wife.
On January 20, 1981, favored by bright sunshine and balmy temperatures, the ceremony took place for the first time on the West Front of the Capital, where President Ronald Reagan could get a sweeping view of the famous Washington Monument. The president was dressed in formal attire for my birthday, contrasting the informality of the four years prior when President Carter dressed informally...but they never forgot my birthday.
Yes, only in the USA would they have a birthday bash every four years for an unknown nobody like me - but I hope the Weather Man can predict a sunny, not too cold, good day for my Birthday Party this year.
Thanks again, dear, for the lovely Birthday Card, and don't forget to watch my 75th birthday party unfold on TV Tuesday....
Lots of love,
PS: I've never been to my big Birthday bash in Washington D.C., and to tell you the truth, I don't ever remember getting an invitation, either. Hmmmm? Well, it's the thought that counts anyway, right? And I'm sure they're thinking about me, and that's all that matters.
