When we greet each other warmly, and our smiles seem sincere?
We’re filled with such exuberance as we shop for those we know,
So they’ll feel the love of Jesus, as gifts on them we bestow.
We decorate our houses, and we sing the Christmas songs,
And all men become our brothers, ‘tis the time to right all wrongs.
We go to church and celebrate the Savior’s lowly birth,
Thanking Him for coming as a Man, yet God, to Earth.
Oh, just what is the reason for this special time of year
When the world is more peaceful, and we walk in Christmas cheer?
It’s a time when we give out, and it’s a time when we receive,
Love abounds from hearts remembering the day we first believed!
We search for those less fortunate, we want to lend a hand,
To make sure they have a season like all others in the land.
Patience with each other, and a measure of sweet grace
Is something that we notice more, amid the frantic Christmas pace.
The dreaded winter weather, now a blessing in disguise,
For suddenly we love the snow as in our face it flies.
This weather makes it much more fun as we cut down the tree
For without the cold and frosty air, just what fun would it be?
The days are filled with gatherings, folks come from far and wide
To eat and drink so merrily, oh such unity does abide!
The children act their very best, it is that time of year
When laughter fills their world, with no shedding of a tear.
And then the season’s over, and the world does return
To the reality of day to day, was there nothing that we learned?
We all go back to normal, and the time we hold so dear
Becomes a faded memory, until it comes next year.
Dear Jesus, won’t you tell me, what is the single reason
For the celebration of your birth, and for the Christmas season?
With sadness in His eyes, He leans and whispers in my ear
“My child, I want Christmas to stay with you through the year!”
He holds me, oh so tightly, and He said it grieves Him so
When His children forget Christmas and go back to what they know.
Why can’t we smile warmly, every day be that sincere
As we do so easily in this season of the year?
Can we learn to buy a simple gift for someone that we know
Without the Christmas season, as His love we do bestow?
Our homes, why can’t we decorate with reminders of His birth?
So we remember daily that He came as Man to Earth.
A Christmas carol in July -- oh, wouldn’t He be pleased
To know that we’re remembering the hour we first believed?
To treat men as our brothers, and to right our daily wrongs
Would certainly be a reason to sing His Christmas songs!
Church should be a place of worship, and not for just a season
With Christmas in our hearts, we don’t have to have a reason!
And those who are less fortunate, they need what we can do
Not just at Christmas time, but the rest of the year too.
Patience and sweet grace are things God wants us so to live
That others will take notice, and want what we so freely give.
The winter’s cold and snow are sent for us to see and love
For every type of weather is a gift from God above.
Our lives should include gatherings, with folks from far and wide
As we celebrate our faith, in perfect unity abide.
And children’s laughter is a joy to the Father’s listening ear
He longs so much to hear it, not just a certain time of year!
So the reason for the season is to remind us all each day
To keep Christmas in our hearts through everything we do and say.
When we learn this precious lesson, we will finally know the reason
For this special time of year, known to be the Christmas season!
