I sit in the cool air of the emergence of dawn. The gentleness of the first appearance of sunlight makes a crease of soft gold behind the trees in front of the horizon, bringing with it the promise of warmth.
To close my eyes for prayer seems to give disrespect for the wonder of creation. I sip my tea and drink in the surrounds, a little while longer, drawing in breath mingled with the aroma of fresh tea, lush lawn, the awakening flowers and the lifting dew.
To pause here and enjoy my environment will only hold my attention a little while; the greater thing awaits me.
The sense of His presence, beckoning me, drawing me, gathering me, lifting me; that’s what I’ve come for.
This morning I try to remember some of the words my Grandmother sang to me:
‘I walk in the garden,
When the dew is still on the roses,
And a melody I love to hear
Sings softly in my ear.
Oh He walks with me
And He talks with me
And tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known’
His presence gathers me this morning. He whispers to my aching heart.
“I am with you. I will never leave you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
I know afresh and understand anew the fullness of His promise.
Where I’m going, He is with me. Those I love are in His care. Whatever is ahead, He already knows and has prepared a way for me. I can do it, in Him and through Him and for Him.
Mmmm, where has the time gone?
I gather up my cold cup, close my Bible, survey the now blossomed morning, breathe in deeply and walk across the bridge of time, ready for what this day ahead holds for me.
