Topic: Concentration (07/24/08)
I love to chat with God in the morning. It doesn’t, however, always go the way I think it should. I’m out of bed at seven and head for the shower. Then it usually ends up a little like this:

“Put the pedal down, watch the world around fly by me…” Start the shower, adjust the temperature, sing a little more of the song I can’t get out of my head and whose lyrics I can’t remember. Temperature’s good, get in. Now’s the perfect time to chat with God.

“Good morning Lord. Thanks for a great nights sleep…Mmm.

“What’s that. I never noticed that pattern on the shower curtain before. Ahh, it’s a bit of dirt from when the boys took their baths last night.

“Man look at the ring they left on the tub. I’ll just clean it up a little, move their toys out of the way…

“I really wished they wouldn’t leave their toys in here all the time. I think maybe we won’t get so many toys this Christmas for them.

“Wow, Christmas is only a few months away, I can’t believe how fast time flies these days.

“I need to call Tim and confirm the time his flight is coming in next month. I really thought he’d call me by now.

“Oops. I forgot to pay the cell phone bill. I need to contact them and let them know that I forgot before they threaten to cut me off.

“I wonder if Debbie remembered to cut up that loin roast. I’d hate to see that much meat go to waste.

“Hey, today is Tuesday, I gotta take the trash off to the dump before it overflows. And I guess I should get rid of that scrap metal while I’m at it.

“Oh, I forgot to cut up all that steel at work the other day. I hope the boss doesn’t yell at me.

“I’m supposed to bring my uniforms for Debbie to wash or I’ll be wearing dirty clothes to work.

“I sure hope that new washer lasts longer than the last one did. I can’t believe that thing died at just over two years old.” The shower stops.

“Thank you Jesus for a blessed time with you. I love you so much.”

Funny and sad. It's hard to concentrate on talking with God while doing something else. Our time with Him should be just that. Good story and something to keep in mind. Nicely done. Thanks.

Ha!! This kind of thing happens to me often! I think this is why God often allows Satan to "sift" us, allowing rotten things into our lives so that we've no where else to turn but Him, desparately seeking Him and growing closer to Him as we do. I noticed the subtle and direct connects between each distracted thought. Most of them were centered on money worries, which is where my mind often goes. I loved this all the way up to the ending, which seemed rushed. An ironic twist of events at the end to punctuate your point would be great! : )
