I saw seven colored arches in the rainbow; there was red, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange and blue. It was so beautiful.
Momma told me that a rainbow represented a promise that God had made.
When I got home I ran up to my bedroom to grab my colored markers and a white piece of paper.
I wanted to color a rainbow for momma.
The first arch I colored was red and the promise I made to momma was to always love her.
The second arch I colored was yellow and the promise I made to momma was to always brighten up her day.
The third arch I colored in my rainbow was pink and the promise I made to momma was that I will always be her little girl.
The fourth arch I colored was green and the promise I made to momma was to water her plants so they would stay alive.
The fifth arch I colored was purple and the promise I made to momma was to treat her like a queen, by listening to her when I'm told to do something.
The sixth arch I colored was orange and the promise I made to momma was to help her bake a pumpkin pie because that's her favorite desert.
The seventh arch I colored was blue and the promise I made to momma was that anytime I seen a rainbow stretched across the sky, I would think of the time she told me about Gods promises.
When I was done coloring my rainbow I gave it to momma. She hung it up on our refrigerator as a reminder of the promises I had made to her.
That night when momma was tucking me into bed I asked her, “Momma, what kinda promises does God make?”
“Well honey, God has made many promises to us … he promises that if we are feeling sad or scared all we need to do is call on him and he will be there. He also promises us that if we rely on him he will provide us with everything we need such as food, shelter and love. These are just a couple of God’s promises.”
“Is it true momma, that God can hear me when I cry or help me when I am scared? Can he really get rid of bad dreams, or bullies, or mean looking dogs?”
“Yes it’s true honey; God tells us that if we call on him he will answer us.”
“Momma”
“Yes honey”
“Has God ever promised you something?”
“Yes he has sweetheart, he has promised to help me many times. He once promised me that if I listened to him and stayed out of trouble that he would give to me the life and the family I always desired”
“Did God do what he promised he would do?”
“I have you don’t I”
“Momma”
“Yes Teagan”
“Is keeping a promise important?”
“Oh yes honey, a promise is a promise… it is something you should always keep”
“Momma, I love you and I promise to always love you.”
“I promise to always love you too honey, now you go to sleep and remember to say your prayers”
After momma left my room I said my prayers but for some reason my prayer felt different tonight, maybe because I knew that God had promised to listen to me.
“Good night God.”
“Good night Teagan”
