I was sent off to school,
to check out my brain cells;
"whether Genius or Fool."
The first thing I learned
was my X, Y and Z's;
and the newest translation
of the birds and the bees..
As my brain cells expanded
Wisdom and knowledge unfurled,
and at last I was ready
to take on the World.
Mama cried softly
while papa just scowled,
when I said "NO" to college -
like a dim-witted owl.
"But what", mama argued,
"will you do with your life,
if you don't have a profession
and you're nobody's wife?"
"Well, I don't want to cook,
to nurse or to teach;
I just wannabe a Lifeguard
on some sandy white beach."
"Great", papa guffawed,
"you'd better take Murph,
so he can run down some Frisbees,
while you're scanning the surf."
"Terrific", mama ditto'ed,
"what a Lifeguard you'll be,
in your polka-dot two-piecer,
saving souls from the sea".
Then papa muttered,
"Yikes, I hope we're alive
when our bikini-clad daughter
turns a bronzed Sixty five."
