“Just as well these are polished boards”, she thought, “Carpet would be worn through by now”.
The corner of her lips twitching into the flicker of a smile, soon replaced by the darkness that clouded her eyes.
Her head throbbed. “Too many thoughts”, she thought.
Today was another day where she wished her mind had an ‘off’ switch.
On her knees, at the side of her bed…head resting in her arms, the first tear trickled down her cheek.
Her heart cried out the all familiar words. More than words. Her strength, her hope.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills…” She knew the passage by heart, tears now flowing readily. “…where does my help come from?”
“Where God, where?”
She cried out the words, desperation in her voice.
“Where are you?”
Her heart continued. Words of comfort.
“My help comes from the Lord. The Maker of heaven and earth.”
She felt her body start to relax.
Peace beginning to wash over her, through her.
She had tried to ‘work things out’, the problems, complexities, the trials of life.
She had tried to understand, to be in control. When all her Father was asking, was to trust… “Trust in Me”.
Why did she get herself into such a state?
Why did she think she knew better?
How many times would she have to learn this lesson?
As she relaxed and ‘let go’ of all she had been hanging onto, the voice in her heart continued…
“The Lord watches over you…He will keep you from all harm…He will watch over your life.”
Her focus was shifting from herself, to her Father.
Only then could she get a better perspective.
He needed to come first.
As she knelt, head in hands, a tear streaked face, the flicker of a smile played again on her lips.
She was His child.
She rested peacefully in His arms.
“I will trust You Lord”, she whispered, as the soft, still voice in her heart spoke out the final words of the passage.
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore”.
