Topic: Frenemy (02/13/25)
I have been through disappointment with a neighbor who was my friend for 14 years. Her name was Joanne. We went camping together with her parents, and also swam at the corry together. My parents also invited Joanne to go to the cottage with us for a few nights. Joanne and I had a good time. She was brought up in a Christian home. They to a Baptist church, and I went to a few of their services.

When Joanne met her husband. We did things together, too like going to the cottage with her parents, and going on a big trip to New York city. I really enjoyed the trip, but I was in credit card debt afterwards. I went over the limit when I had to pay for my share for the hotel accommodation, and for the helicopter ride. I was fortunate to have full time job to pay it off, which I eventually did.

Joanne and her husband took money from me each month which was around 250.00. They said that I would get a car if I keep paying them each month for a year or 2. During that time they took a trip to Cuba. I was wondering how they could afford to take a trip there for almost a week. They did not have high paying jobs. Joanne was unemployed for some time. She was a house wife, and he was employed with a company which wad probably not more than minimum wage. I believed them, and Joanne told me not to tell anybody.

As soon as I gave them their money, there was no car, and I told my boyfriend about it, and he insisted that Joanne should give me the money back. So she gave me some that money back for 500.00 dollars. She had sign my name on a piece of paper towel where I worked. I thought that that amount of money was better than not giving me any money at all. After that I never had anything to do with her or her husband.

I know that Jesus is our true friend. Joanne often told me that she loved me as a sister. Did she really feel that way.

A well-written but sad story, which for your sake I hope is fictional. If it's true, may you grow in God's grace to combine alertness with generosity and avoid becoming a cynic.

What a sad story! I don't know if this is a true story, but I hope Joanne did not do anything dishonest with your name that she signed on a paper towel.
