Shame is what I feel,
hidden from all eyes,
an unclean ordeal
my hope slowly dies:
Me; bleeding
misreading
taking in the lies.
Outcast from connection,
lonely and afraid,
no one wants infection
my touch they evade;
Me; broken
wounds open
pity on parade.
Jesus coming nearer,
crowds around are pressing,
nothing to endear her
reaching for His blessing;
Christ; power
shame devour
more than bleeding, healing!
Daughter is my new name,
seen as precious in His eyes,
acceptance now I claim
faith and hope begins to rise;
Christ; strengthens
rest lengthens
secure in the grace He supplies.
Note: The poem above is written from the perspective of the woman who had suffered from constant bleeding for 12 years. She would have been considered ceremonially unclean. Forced to live outside the city, alone, afraid and disconnected from her family and friends. When Jesus called her daughter, it was an acceptance of her as family, an acceptance with Jesus expressing that she was precious and valued in His sight. He brought healing and an end to her suffering outside the camp!
Each one of us are seen as precious by Jesus. It’s the reason He was willing to die for us, because He values us so highly. It is also the reason He delights in giving us special things in our life. Things of so much more value than gold or silver, for they show us His Father’s heart. We should hold each of these special gifts from God as precious in our heart – which the theme of the poem below explores in greater depth.
