Wherever we are, our witness is the base for sharing the fragrance of Christ. People around us should see Christ in us more than they hear about Christ from us. God taught me a couple of times when I lost my witness in the marketplace. From then on, I have kept these lessons in my mind and am striving to follow them diligently. At my previous workplace, there were two instances where I snapped at my coworker. One Sunday, I was going to share the testimony of the last two weeks of my mom’s life and sing an offering song at church. That morning, I felt stressed about it and that is when I was asked to log in to my work as there was an issue. Immediately I felt that it was the devil’s tactics to hinder my testimony sharing at church. I felt very frustrated and ended up snapping at my coworker saying that I cannot log in as I had a commitment in church. The reason was good, but the way I handled it wasn’t right. I heard God ask me, “If you are going to act like that, how does that make you different from them?”. I took the brunt for that from them for a year. After enduring so many hardships, finally, after a year, I asked God if it was in His will to give me favor in their eyes. And God instantly gave me favor in their eyes. From that week, I started to see a change in their behaviors toward me.

Since the time God asked me that question, I became very careful about my witness. No matter how much provoking they would do, I would just listen quietly. At times, even if I start to defend myself to them, immediately I would feel God in my heart saying, “Don’t”. And I would quietly listen to everything that they would say. By the time my role ended at that place, everyone on the team had become very kind to me.

When we feel agitated, if we notice, our body also gets all worked up as if to fight. We can instantly understand that it is the work of the flesh. So whenever we feel the need to say an angry word, we should be alert to overcome that emotion. If we give an inch to the devil by any of the fruit of the flesh, he tends to become the ruler. So let us be very mindful of our words and speak words that are seasoned with grace and peace.
