for she is not my wife,
and I am not her husband.
Let her remove the adulterous look from her face
and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
Otherwise I will strip her naked
and make her as bare as on the day she was born;
I will make her like a desert,” (Hosea 2:2-4; NIV)
“LORD?”
“What, Mein kin’der.”
“Are we still in the desert?”
“Who, child.”
“Us! The Jews! Well, at the time of Hosea we weren’t called ‘the Jews’ yet.
But whatever.
So, weren’t we the bad wife? The one You’re talkin’ about here?”
[Nod.]
“The problem is that the Old Testament kind’a ended on a bad note.
Actually, it’s the Tanakh.”
“What is, Mein precious.”
“The Old Testament! That’s just the goyishka word for it.
So, in the Book of Hosea all You talked about was what a lousy wife we were.
Oh. I’m already past 150 words, LORD.
Should I just end it here?”
“Nein, My schlipkah.
Go on.”
“I already forgot what this ‘challenge’ is about.
Oh, yeah.
The wife thing.
That’s a lovely topic in my nere’do’well life, LORD, huh. I came from The Misbegotten Wife, and became The Forgotten Wife. Like Paul said, a Hebrew of the Hebrews!
Funny, huh?”
“No.”
“Aw, come on. You’ve lost your sense of Jewish humor, LORD! Been around the
goyim too long! You need to get back to Your Roots.”
[Smile.]
“So.
Where are the Jews now? According to the Christians we’re Lost and Blinded:
squinting painfully through cracked eyeglasses.
So, what are we, LORD?
The Misbegotten, Forgotten Wife?
A scratched, chipped ruby lost in the Sands of Time?”
“Chipped, yes.
But not lost.”
“Why is that, LORD?”
“Because, Mein kin’der.
The Sands of Time
are in
My Hand.”
“Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.”
(Ezekiel 16:8 NIV)

Nevertheless, you have done such an excellent job with the transition from "Rebuke her. . . I will make her like a desert." to ". . . you became Mine." All because the Sands of Time are in His hand. WOW!
I hope you place high with this piece.
