At times small rocks rose up to block its way. Glistening, white spray was the only visible evidence that the river had collided with a supposed barrier. When the river bed dropped in altitude or the water rushed through areas impacted with rocks, rapids and white water foamed, giving evidence of obstruction. Other times, the water impacted large boulders yet hastened around them in quest of its destination. Nothing stopped this charging, aqueous flow in its single minded intent.
Whatever the imposition, the river coursed onward with one designed purpose, under the fashioned control of its Creator. Hastening to the ocean, its final destination. Nothing was big enough to stop it. The water either surged over the tops of rocks or cut a path around them, eventually wearing them down. The river always found a way to continue its journey.
As I watched this interesting phenomenon, a Bible verse came to mind. "No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it." (I Corinthians 10:13)God, the One who has control over all of nature has also provided a spiritual control so that man can find his way over and around the rocks and boulders of temptation in life.
A designed way of escape always materialized for the water as it dashed over or around any obstacle in its path. Single minded, the water flowed onward to the sea. In the same way, God promises to provide a way of escape for us. He is a faithful and can be trusted. As we focus on the Lord, with the kingdom of God as our destination, He faithfully provides the control we need to navigate around the rocks and boulders we encounter in life. Trials have the ability to tempt us to doubt God, to lose hope, to walk in unbelief. Yet, with each temptation, God has a way of escape. Stepping into His river of life, where He is always in control, the flow ultimately leads us into the ocean of His love.
