Many charged him to hold his peace, but the blind man was desperate. He was tired of begging. He was tired of getting a piece of money here and there from the people. He wanted his eyesight. He wanted to live and work like a normal person. He had a family, a wife, and a daughter. His name was Blind Bartimaeus.

Some said that he was born blind. Others said that he became blind when he was a child.

His mother would tell him Bible stories and instill in him that one day the Messiah would come, the great Prophet that Isaiah prophesied. He will heal the sick, raise the dead, and give sight to the blind; the lame will walk again, and the deaf will hear. And blind Bartimaeus believed his mother and looked forward to his visitation day.

Blind Bartimaeus longed to see the Messiah, and he would pray day and night. Then one night, he had a dream that he could see. He woke up and said to his wife, "I will see you one day!"

"How?" she asked, confused. "The priest said that the days of miracles are passed...there are no more miracles, so how?"
"The Messiah is here somewhere," he said. He was shaking with excitement and happiness. He was so happy that he got out of bed, put on his garment, and went straight to Jericho's gate.

At the gate of Jericho, a kind gentleman stopped and gave him a piece of bread and money. As he sat at the gate eating the bread, a businessman stopped, gave him another coin, and asked him, "Do you know that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by today?
"Who is He?" Blind Bartimaeus asked. His face lit up with hope as he remembered his dream. While thinking about it, he was interrupted by one of the Pharisees that stood next to him. "Hold your peace, beggar; Jesus is a fanatic."
"What!" Then he heard footsteps walking and people screaming and shouting.
He jumped up and shouted, "Who is that?"
Someone said, "Hold your peace, Is Jesus of Nazareth, the healer. He can't see you."
"He can't see me?" he asked, looking up as if trying to see.
"No, be quiet."
The lady beside him said, "Sir, Jesus who heals the sick."
"You mean the Son of David?"
"Yes, that's him."
Blind Bartimaeus shouted, "Jesus, thou Son of David have mercy upon me!"
"Shut up, He can't hear you," Someone shouted at him again.
But blind Bartimaeus shouted the more.

It was his only opportunity to meet Jesus and his only chance for deliverance. So blind Bartimaeus continued crying, "Jesus thou Son of David, have mercy upon me!" and Jesus heard him. Jesus hears a desperate cry.

The noise grew louder and louder, but Jesus had heard him, and the impossible happened. His faith stopped Jesus. And Jesus said, "Bring him here."
Then two of his disciples took hold of the blind man and said, "Be of good cheer; he is calling you."

Blind Bartimaeus cast away his garment and went to Jesus. As he stood in the presence of the Prince of Peace, he saw the broken pieces of his life were made whole.

Jesus looked at him and said, "What shall I do for thee?"
He said, "Lord, that I may receive my sight."
"Go thy way; thy faith has made thee whole." And immediately, he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.
