He thought, "Milltown, where is that?"
He had never heard of that city, so when he went to church the Wednesday night, he asked the congregation if anyone knew a city called Milltown.
Brother George lifted his hand and said, "I know, it is about thirty-five miles down the Southern here. I live close to it."
Brother Bill said, "I will be down next Saturday. God wants me to go to Milltown."
So, they went down the Saturday, and Brother bill went into the grocery store and bought a box, wondering what the Lord would have him do. He could not think of anything to preach. So, he watched the folks coming into town to do their shopping.
Brother George interrupted Brother Bill's thoughts. "I am going up the hill to do a little trading. I got to take some eggs up there to a man. Do you want to ride up with me?"
"Yes." Brother Bill answered.
On their way, Brother Bill saw a prominent church painted in white. "Say, look!" pointing his finger to the church. "Isn't that a lovely church?"
Brother George said, "Yes, it's a pity about that church. That's a Baptist church, and the pastor got in some trouble. The church went down, and they never had a pastor since. The city taken it over, and the congregation all left and went to other churches."
Brother Bill said, "Stop."
Brother George stopped the vehicle.
Brother Bill said, "Go ahead and come back and pick me up."
Then he walked to the church, knelt, and prayed, "Lord, if you want me in this church, unlock those doors for me."
While praying, he heard footsteps and got up from his knees and a man was walking towards him.
The man said, "Hello!"
He replied, "Howdy do?"
The gentleman said, "I see you were praying."
"Yes sir. I—I just…. I'm a preacher, and I was just praying here on the steps."
"You want go in?"
"Yes sir."
"I got the keys."
"Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord!" Brother Bill exclaimed.
"All you believe in that?"
"Yes, sir. Yes sir. He is real."
The man opened the door, and Brother Bill walked in. He bowed his head and prayed. Then he asked the man who was the owner of the building.
"Oh, the city. I just take care of it here. The only thing we have in it is funerals, and so forth."
Brother Bill said, "Wonder if I could have a revival here?"
"See the city official," the man said.
"I go down and speak to him."
So, Brother Bill went to the office and spoke to the person in charge of the building.
"Sure, if you will put a meter in it," the official said.
"I work for Utility company," Brother Bill assured him. "I'll put my own meter in."
"Alright," the official said.
Brother Bill went around the city and invited people to the meetings. He had a message for the people burning in his heart to preach. He said, "Oh, we'll probably have a big crowd there tonight." But it was only Brother George, his wife, son, and daughter.
The next night a weird-looking fellow came and stood outside the building. He had a pipe in his mouth and knocked it out at the side of the building. Hair hanging down on his face and his tooth out on the side. He looked in and said, "Where is that little Billy Sunday, they're talking about in here?"
Brother George got up, went out, brought him in, and put him to sit. Brother Bill was at the pulpit when Brother George came to him and said, "The hardest boiled in the country just walk in. Oh, he's a ripsnorter. His name is William, and he runs the florist up here on the hill."
"Maybe that's the one the Lord is after," Brother Bill said.
Brother Bill began preaching while Brother George returned to William and asked if he wanted to move up front.
William said, "I'll take care of things back here; you go up front."
At the end of the service, William was kneeling on the rail and praying. William was a backslidden Nazarene member.
That night he accepted the Lord as his Savior, and subsequently, he became Brother Bill's associate pastor for that church.
