Bill was a preacher. The Holy Ghost and fire, the promise of God, in Acts 2:38, was his theme for every sermon.
One day, Bill and his brother was walking by a creek and saw an old turtle.
"Look…Mike," Bill exclaimed, pointing to the old fellow.
"That's… the funniest looking thing I have ever seen. Look how he spread out his feet! Isn't that weird?"
Bill was intrigued by the old turtle's looks. They both laughed as they reached to grab his feet, but the turtle sensed danger and backed up into his shell.
The old turtle reminded him of some preachers. And he thought, "This is like some preachers; when you tell them about Acts 2:38, they pull back into their shell." They say, "I belong to so-and-so. I am Doctor so-and-so. We don't believe that the Holy Ghost is for our age, and they failed to see the Word of God."
"I will make him walk," Bill said. So they went over the other side, cut a long switch, and returned to him. They beat him, but still, he did not move. Bill thought that you could never beat those preachers into believing in the baptism of the Holy Ghost, for they are stuck in their tradition.
The boys were determined to get that old turtle to move. They picked him up and dumped him under the water; just a few bubbles appeared.
"Brother, you can go down a dry sinner and come a wet one; just a few bubbles."
They went and got a piece of paper, built a little fire, and placed the old boy on it. He walked then.
Bill thought, "What we need today is preachers who will preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It will make you move and walk in the Spirit."
"For it's the Holy Ghost and fire, keeping me alive. Jesus is keeping me alive..."
