This was a road I had traveled many times but today everything seemed different, things I had seen just a few days ago were not there but others things I had never seen stood out like a sore thumb. I had to ask myself if I had just not been paying close attention on my walks, or had things really changed that much. Either way I could not deny there were definite changes I was witnessing.
There were so many birds by the wayside, and they were having a feast. It was if someone had just thrown out a bag full of new seeds and the birds gobbled them up before they could take root . I know had never seen anything like that on my previous walks .
As I continued my walk the beautiful flowers I had seen over by the rocks yesterday were dried up and were looking scorched. As I looked closer I could see the roots were above ground and the plants were withering away.
It was oblivious that there was not enough good soil, there was no possible way to really to be strong or grounded it was all just on the surface dirt.
It was like I was walking the road of death, even the beautiful rose bushes I see everyday seem to be taken over by briars. The once vibrate bushes were turning brown and the roses were dying before they could actually bloom. Any hope of being strong and growing to maturity had vanished by strangulation.
I was feeling very sad and confused. Why had the birds eaten all the seeds giving nothing a chance to even think about growing. The poor little flowers over by the rocks they were only growing on the surface and had not seem to be able to take root. I didn’t even want to look at the roses bushes, it reminded me of something being choked to death having no hope of surviving.
As I continued my walk, feeling pretty low I caught out of the corner of my eye a most beautiful site. The open field ahead of me was full of lovely sun flowers, I felt as through I had come out of a large dark tunnel and stepped into a ray of sunshine. Some of the flowers were small but still blooming, others were standing a foot above the small ones ,their flowers a little larger. But in one section in the back those were the ones you could tell right off were planted firmly on solid ground. They very were tall as if reaching up to the heavens, and their flowers were vibrate full of life for all to see.
Later that day as I sat on my porch swing, with a refreshing cold glass of lemonade - I was reflecting back on my morning walk. The seeds the birds ate having no chance to grow or to become strong. The flowers in the rocks wanting to grow, but harshness surrounding them would not allow growth. The rose bushes I found very sad, they wanted so badly to grow and become strong but being surround by life’s entanglement and cares didn’t have the strength to make it.
Then I felt joy overcome me when I thought of the sunflowers in the field. They were determine to go forth strong, full of life letting nothing stop them. Using every source of strength God had provided for them.
I sat reflecting back on my life. I could see me in each stage of my walk. I had lived scattered about not taking root for a long time. I remembered being trapped among the rocks with no ground to stand on, strangled by the cares and sins of the world. But now, thankfully, walking strongly with my Father, grounded and rooted in His love. Yes I had truly been given a blessing on my walk this morning.
It was like I had walked through a live illustration of the parable Jesus had told and explained to His disciples. Matthew 13:3-9, 18-23 NASB
