My imagination was in force, "all over the place." To keep it under control, I needed to speak to someone. I thought, "Who could I call this hour in the morning?"
My friend Pam came to mind, so I took the chance and dialed her number. Surprisingly she answered the phone immediately.
"Pam," I cried, "I just had a terrifying dream! I don't want to lose my job. How can I live without a job? How can I pay my rent without a job?" I stuttered in fright.
I told her about the dream and how it was so real. She listened attentively and suggested that we pray.
"Oh God, please help me…," I prayed. "Take away this fear…." Then Pam prayed. When we finished praying, I felt assured of God's promise: My people shall never be ashamed. Joel 2:26. And no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper..., Isaiah 54:17.
Transferred from the Bay store to the Credit office, and while working as a part-time employee, a conflict arose in the office. As a Christian, I stood for what was right. Even though it was the right decision, I was disturbed about my decision because I knew the challenges I would face.
As the conflict continued, I became more aware of Ephesians 6, verses 12-13:
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore, take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
My supervisor reduced my working hours, and she did all she could to prevent me from obtaining a full-time position. But I held the shield of faith by believing the Word of God— "No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper…."
As I was preparing for work the following day after the dream, I stood face to face with the spirit of fear, and I was sorely afraid. I thought of God's Word, seeing the two paths before me: the path of fear and the way of faith. I had to make a choice. I said, "Lord, I want to follow your Word." And I stepped out in faith, commanding the spirit of fear to leave.
At work, I saw the Director and the Manager having a conversation, and it seemed to me that they were looking in my direction. Fear showed up again, but I ignored it. The Bible said to resist the devil, and he will flee from you. And he did.
Finally, I got a full-time job and worked in that office until I retired.
God's Word never fails.
