The Bible is not only a book of prophecies or history; it is also a book of love stories, and the book of Ruth is one of those stories.

Going back to the book of Ruth history, it started with the judges who ruled in Judah after the death of Joshua. There came a famine in the land, and Elimelech and his wife Naomi and their two sons left Judah to escape the famine, and they settled in the country of Moab. Elimelech died, and Naomi left with her two sons, and they married Moabite's women, Ruth and Orpah. Eventually, the sons died, and the three women cared for themselves.

Naomi heard that God had visited her country and there was bread in the land. So, she decided to return to her country. After speaking with her daughters-in-law about her decision and encouraging them to return to their mother's house kissing them goodbye, they both were sad and lifted their voices and cried and told Naomi that they would go with her to her country. But Naomi was not satisfied with their decisions, so she kissed them again and implored them to go back, explaining why they should and emphasizing that they would be better off in their mother's house than with her. They again lifted their voices and cried, and Orpah returned to her mother's house, and Ruth stayed with Naomi.

Ruth said to Naomi, "For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God."

Naomi and Ruth continued the journey to Bethlehem and entered the country at the beginning of the barley season. They got to know each other better on their journey together, and Ruth quickly adjusted to Naomi's lifestyle.

Naomi remembered that her husband had a kinsman in Bethlehem, Boaz. He was wealthy and one of great power in the family. She told Ruth about him, and Ruth said, "I pray thee, let me go to his field, and gather ears of corn after him, in whose sight I find favor." And Naomi said, "Go my daughter."

So, Ruth found herself picking grains in the field of the wealthy landowner Boaz. She worked hard, and Boaz noticed her and instructed the men to leave extra grain behind in the area so she could gather more. Naomi was happy for the bundles of grains that Ruth brought home every evening. She encouraged her to stay in his field and told her that she would find rest if she found grace with him.

One day the wealthy Boaz came looking around the field, and his eyes fell on Ruth, and it was love at first sight. He spoke with her, and he told her he heard about her being faithful to her mother-in-law Naomi and a hard worker. He entreated her to stay in his field and assured her that he commanded the men not to disrespect her.


Ruth was excited about the event of meeting and talking to Boaz. She told Naomi all about it.
Naomi said to her, "Boaz will be going to winnow barley to night and put on your garment and cover yourself and go down to meet him. And when you see him note the place that he will sleep and go there and lie down by his feet and cover yourself with his skirt."
Ruth said, "What you say, that I will do."

Ruth did what Naomi told her, and when Boaz discovered her at his feet, he said to her that he knew that she was a virtuous woman, and he was her near kinsman. He told her to cover herself up and lie down until morning.

When morning came, she gathered up a big bunch of barley and took them home.
At home, Ruth asked Naomi, "What will happen to me?"
Naomi said," Rest Ruth, the man will have no rest this day until he pays the full price of redemption."

That day, Boaz redeemed Naomi to get Ruth. And he made a public testimony that he redeemed Naomi and will take Ruth as his bride.

The love story of Boaz and Ruth typed the love story of Christ and His bride, and Christ redeemed His church to get His bride.


So be not afraid! Rest little bride: For all is well.

This article simply retells the story of Ruth. Uncork those creative juices and put the reader INTO the story. Get the reader to feel Ruth's angst, concern, joy, trust, etc. Give the story your own creative flair. With showing, not telling, the reader comes away with a new angle and satisfied heart! Keep writing!
