I never told you what was happening
in the dark and soaking fibre
of your family
my family
things never shared, never dared
to be exposed to God's light
that searing beam -
so they could shrivel and lose
the power or secrecy...
and still we pretended,
picture perfect
until the day God
called you home.
I was healed in dreams
of you -
how you acknowledge now
the truth never spoken,
never exposed...
You would have been proud of me
trembling with truth,
anxious with the heavy stone words
that dared not be acknowledged
(but carried for so long inside)
I spewed them and healing shook me
with long shuddering gasps
as the truth was exposed....
Dad is in jail now – he walked the stony path
the heavy stone evidence laid out for him,
the words of testimony and truth
rending that dark and soaking fibre
that bound us all to silence
The searing beam has highlighted
and dissolved our picture
shrivelled our picture -
we lost our image of
your family
my family
we are not picture perfect
but, at least now,
God
is in the picture.
