Again the man spoke, “I have no silver or gold to give as you asked of me, but I know someone who can give you what is far more valuable than silver or gold to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk!” This time the man seemed to speak with authority that was not of this world, and with an assurance that left no doubt in my heart that he believed I could do it. I trembled inwardly with excitement mingled with unbelief!
You must know that I wanted to stand and walk more than anything! Just the thought of it filled my heart with joy and made my head swim! All the years of hopelessness, begging and desperation would be gone. Then I began to fear that if I tried and failed to walk I would be the laughing stock of the city, and yet, inside I was bursting with hope that this could be real and that I could do it!
Someone yelled, “This Jesus has healed others!” Others just stared while others seemed as if they wanted to believe with me because they too wanted something that would lift them above the oppression of this God forsaken, Roman controlled land we called our home. It suddenly dawned on me that they were probably as desperate for relief as I was. Oh how wonderful it would be to be the one who could give them hope! I decided I wanted to give it a try as much for their sake as my own, and I asked the stranger to give me his hand. My whole body trembled in anticipation and my mind reeled with the possibility!
The next few seconds seemed like an eternity as I grabbed the outstretched hand and looked again into those piercing eyes, and then suddenly I found myself rising as if by magic and I felt strength come into my legs and feet. I was standing! How could I describe the range of emotions pouring through me? I couldn’t help myself! I began to leap for joy, not realizing that I was leaping and my mouth opened in praise to God that swelled in fervency without restraint! “I can walk, I can walk, I can walk,” I shouted as tears welled up in my eyes. The man who gave me his hand smiled broadly as though my joy were his, and he told me that I must let others know of this Jesus who had restored me to health. The smiles of joy on the faces of the people surrounding us and the cheers coming from them thrilled me! I have never forgotten the words of this man and have never ceased to tell others of the precious power of Jesus my healer and redeemer!
Now I walk with Him day after day, and my heart is at rest. If you are reading this, and you are facing a difficulty in your life you can believe me that Jesus is well able to lift you above whatever problems you are facing now and any you will ever face! He is the healer of not only bodies but hearts as well! Trust Him! His power is beyond our comprehension, and His love is sweet and never failing! I stand as a living testimony to this and it is my earnest prayer that you will find the peace that He alone can give!
