Isn’t weighed by what I do,
But the spirit of my heart,
When seeking to please You.
Is the task more important,
Than those I’m meant serve;
Duty, given precedent,
Absorbing all my verve?
Do actions mirror my motive,
God’s glory to reflect;
Or do I search for praises,
My image to protect?
The gauge is not appearance
Or purposes so grand,
But rather, just obeying
God’s second great command.
Love the Lord with all your heart
The Master’s first mandate.
Love thy neighbor as thyself,
My life should ne’er negate.
Lord, may I not grow weary
Of doing good for You.
Oh, search my soul, dear Savior,
To You, be only true.
============
My Lord and my God, I fall before You with such thanksgiving. Your son, my Savior, the perfect example of what a willing heart is to be, sends me crashing to my knees. I know that the measure of my life is the enduring legacy I leave behind. I pray that my daily posture represent a ready and pliable spirit, void of false echoes or illusory intentions. O, Sweet Owner of My Soul, establish in me a willingness to sacrifice all my selfish wants on the altar of Your perfect will. Remove from me this cloak of pharisaical piety, replacing my sullied garment with the robe of Your righteousness.
As I go forth this week, I petition You to create in me a spirit of compliance. May I strive to accept the mission Your map has chartered for me. May I choose, without hesitation or equivocation, the Father’s design for every breath He so graciously allows me. God of all mercy and ceaseless love, I give You me to do with as You please. May Your name be glorified. Amen.
