I have kicked around ideas of how best to express my thoughts on this weeks subject. Story lines came and went with nothing of any substance. So instead of a story I’ll make a statement this week and see if it will preach.
As Christians, the definition of “Help” should be, “Reach.” Either grasping for God’s help or reaching out a helping hand to others in need. That helping hand can be extended in many ways. Food, shelter, money or God’s word.
Maybe you’re like me and not well-versed in the scripture. You grew up hearing the word everyday but are unable to quote the scripture from memory that would help guide or comfort the person you are trying to witness to.
The way I’ve chosen to share my faith is through song. Although being in front of crowd is uncomfortable for me and I don’t do it very often, it is easier than a one-on-one conversation. The following words are from two songs God has given me and may disqualify this writing because they were written some years ago but have never been published.
Raise Your Hand Up To Him:
Have you ever felt heartache or pain.
Tried to live by the Word but still strayed.
Felt the weight of the world, at you had been hurled.
Well here’s what the Lord has to say.
Chorus:
He said, raise your hand up to Me and My hand I’ll lower to you.
By your show of faith. I’ll show you My grace. Through life I’ll lead you through.
Verse 2
We’ve all lost loved ones to the grave.
Felt the hurt when a child pulls away.
Done things in our lives that weren’t righteous or right.
But here’s what the Lord has to say.
The Choice Is Up To You:
Now you may think, that your sins are too vile. That to ask for forgiveness would not be worthwhile. But God made a promise, that all may come in. Sealed it with His Son Jesus, by His blood you’ll be cleansed.
Chorus:
There’s a hand reaching out from the heavens above. A hand that is trembling, a hand filled with love. Just reach out and grasp it. Start a life that’s brand new. He’s begging to save you, but the choice is up to you.
Verse 2:
There’s no guarantee, of no heartache or pain. No promise of wealth or fame to be gained.
But one thing is certain, Salvation is yours. Jesus gave you that gift, when the cross He endured.
My thinking is that God is always there but it is us that has to Reach out to Him. God is waiting,
pleading that we turn from our worldly ways and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Putting Him first and foremost in our lives. Becoming an example to others. Proof that life is so much fuller with Him than without Him.
Imagine yourself pressed against Gods chest needing His grace. You can feel His chest rise and fall with each breath. Hear the soothing sound of His heart beating, maybe even feel the trembles as He weeps for you. You’re wanting Him to wrap His arms around you to comfort and save you. But He doesn’t. You wonder why, what must you do? Then you hear Him say, “ Hug me.” You question this. What comfort can you give God? The minute you stop trying to rationalize it and “Reach” out and wrap your arms around Him, His arms come around you and absorbs you into Him. Forever safe. You’ll still have to endure some hard times. But never alone, without help.
